on living and dying...

... Thought is a response of memory- memory being the background that has been accumulated, inherited, acquired by the race, by the community, by the individual. Thought it is in its very nature the product of the time and the creator of time...

...There is a renewal only in ending and not in continuity. The state of rebirth is the unknown. Death is the unknown. If we know how to end, there is no fear; if we know how to die each day, then there is no fear. We are never complete in a day, always gathering and gathering. We are always living in the tomorrow or in the yesterday. If we live one day and finish with it and begin again another day as if it were something new, fresh, then there is no fear to death. To die each day to all the memories, to all the struggles, not to carry them over to the next day- in that there is beauty; even though there is an ending, there is a renewal....

... To give up everything, to do it psychologically is not to be attached to anything. In that there is great beauty. Love is not attachment. When there is an attachment, there is fear. And fear inevitably becomes authoritarian, possessive, oppressive, dominating....
